Rogue

With hot release after hot release, Joel Hunt AKA Rogue, has been blowing up as of late. His early work is bass heavy dubstep, but his more recent stuff mixes genre’s well. His newest release Dynamite is a bangin’ electro house track. I love the second breakdown, he rips some epic synths and keeps them alive even after the drop. My personal favorite of the bunch is an original entitled Movement. Once again, the lack of genre is present. This track combines big beat, electro, dubstep, and lil moomba. It is a funky fun glitch romp, and its been on repeat while I write this. I couldn’t do a Rogue post without showcasing his unique brand of dubstep. Air is a feel good summer step track, it manages an uplifting vibe that is lacking in most tracks of the genre. In keeping with the summer theme, the last track is a Coldplay remix. Rogue does a great job maintaining the feel of the original track, while still throwing EPIC dub all over it. I can feel the euphoric cool breeze of summer flowing through Hunt’s redo of Clocks, and it feels great.

Poolside

So its ninety degrees in my apartment, and i’m packing all my things to move across town. In doing, so I decide to put on a chill downtempo playlist. Good idea right? Mellow out, have a beer, pack my shit. All was well until Poolside’s Do You Believe came on. I absolutely LOVE this track, and I was reminded of the video, basically the exact opposite of what i’m doing right now. Hence, a quick break to enlighten those who don’t know about Poolside, the lazy disco duo from LA. They call their sound “Daytime Disco” and it fits wonderfully. Their new album “Pacific Standard Time” comes out July 9th, and it’s sure to impress. The hit single off the LP is Slow Down; It rides a smooth synth through a juicy bass line, and manages to stumble along with slo-mo purpose, makin me want to lay at the pool again. And the video takes me to the water like a moth to a light! Lastly, I’ll include their 12″ release of Harvest Moon, a euphoric downtempo track that cruises along nicely. Drank Disco.

Nu Disco, Summer Audio

Viceroy

It’s a beautiful blue sky and 84 degrees in Denver right now, and I’m left wishing i was at the pool sippin’ a cold one. Instead, i’m trapped in a cube writing code and this post . Alas, bumpin’ these tracks puts me as close to poolside as i’m gunna get today. Viceroy has rapidly become the quintessential producer of Summer. Put on his remix of Ghost Beach’s Miracle, sit back, and let your boss wake you up later. His newest track Chase Us Around comes out July 2nd, and I can’t wait to hear the whole thing! He has no trouble rockin the dancefloor either, as shown in his collaboration with WhiteNoize. Only Takes is available now, and BANGS with hot Friday night sound. Perhaps his most notable tracks appear in the “Jet Life” series. With three installations to date, and more coming, the San Francisco native showcases his prowess for remixing hip-hop with a caribbean summer sound. Return of the Mack is a timeless classic, and the Jet Life remix makes me wanna go hit on honeys at the pool, 40 oz in tow. I saved the best for last, Duck Sauce’s Goody Two Shoes is one of my all time favorite tracks, and Viceroy adds a tad of spice to produce a clean disco edit. I think i’m gunna quit my job, go to the pool, and hit the disco…. later.
